Bottle by Bottle // Nepal

In 2016 I founded Bottle by Bottle following a trip to Nepal where I saw the damage that the 2015 earthquake inflicted on rural communities. I also saw the huge amounts of waste that piled up on the streets of Kathmandu and had to act.

Plastic Bottles

Bottle by Bottle (BbB) is a social enterprise specialising in plastic bottle construction. Affiliated with the global non-profit, Enactus, Bottle by Bottle uses the power of business to drive sustainable change. BbB plans to clean up our communities, create stable employment, and provide safe and affordable housing for all. BbB will reinvest profits back into the business to educate local populations creating a multi-layered impact model.

For just over a year I was the Managing Director and in that time we established major partnerships with Architects without Borders Nepal (ASF Nepal), Himalayan Climate Initiative (HCI) – a Kathmandu based social enterprise incubator, who already had a plastic bottle business empowering local women by recycling the bottles and sending them to India – 40,000 plastic bottles a day. And finally Live to Love International who have a history of aid work in rural Nepal.

Panchkhal Project Site – Change a life.

BbB found their first project site in Panchkhal, just outside Kathmandu, and agreed to build a house for a woman who only had a tin roof over her head. Along side this field work we also raised £8,000 through a national entrepreneurship competition – Ingenuity17 – whilst creating a brand that showed our aim to be a truly sustainable entrepreneurship organisation.
